For Couples
The Clearer Us™
How Seeing Each Other Clearly Changes Your Communication, Your Connection, and the Life You Are Building Together
Understand what each of you brings into the relationship, how those patterns interact, and why familiar conversations and conflicts can keep repeating. The Clearer Us™ moves from each partner’s individual patterns into protective moves, the Shared Connection Cycle, the 7 Foundations, and practical action for the relationship you are building together.
Why Two Good People Keep Missing Each Other
The most frustrating version of relational struggle is the one where both people are trying. Both care, and both want the relationship to be better than it is. Even so, familiar patterns return, a relational gap keeps reopening, and conversations end without feeling finished.
The Clearer Us™ names an incomplete picture as the most common reason effort alone fails to produce the change a couple wants. The book gives both partners a fuller picture of what each brings and what develops between them.
Five Dimensions. One Relationship.
The first four dimensions belong to each partner individually. The fifth is the 7 Foundations, the working parts of daily life, where both partners’ patterns meet.
Portrait
Each partner’s characteristic way of taking in information, making decisions, and engaging other people.
Emotional Skills
Four practical capacities you can build: insight, emotional balance, empathy and relational warmth, and drive.
Connection Style™
How each partner most naturally gives and receives care. The Connection Styles™ are The Encourager™, The Anchor™, and The Clarifier™.
Security Pattern
What helps closeness feel secure for each partner, and what begins inside when that security becomes uncertain.
The 7 Foundations
The working parts of daily life covered later in the book, where both partners’ patterns meet inside shared relationship life.
What Forms Between You
Every person has a protective move, the automatic response that appears when a situation feels exposed, uncertain, or difficult to stay open inside. In a relationship, that move never operates alone. It meets the other person’s move and creates a shared sequence neither partner designed.
Understanding the underlying pattern helps a couple examine what is happening before reacting only to the visible behavior.
The Shared Connection Cycle
A Connection Cycle is the predictable sequence a couple enters when an important need feels threatened. It includes the trigger, each partner’s internal response, each protective action, and the consequence that follows.
In one common loop, a partner goes quiet to sort out what is happening inside, while the other reads the quiet as withdrawal and reaches harder through more words and more questions. Each move makes complete sense from inside it, and each makes the other partner’s move worse.
The book helps couples see the cycle as something they create together, so both partners can ask what keeps it active and what either of them could do differently.
The 7 Foundations in Your Relationship
For couples, the original seven Foundation names apply directly: Communication, Conflict, Trust, Intimacy, Finances, Boundaries, and Growth.

How money, financial priorities, decisions, expectations, habits, and responsibilities affect a relationship.
Boundaries
The expectations, limits, roles, and agreements that help define relationships.

Find Your Starting Portraits
The book includes the Quick Portrait Finder. For the print version, each partner completes the twelve questions separately. Each result identifies a likely starting Portrait and points to the descriptions most relevant for further reflection.
You can also use the online Quick Portrait Finder at RelationshipsReimagined.com/portrait.
For Couples Across Relationship Stages
The book and The Us Profile™ serve couples across many relationship stages, including:
- Dating couples
- Engaged couples
- Couples living apart
- Couples preparing to live together or combine finances
- Remarriages and blended families
- Couples in major life transitions
The framework applies across relationship structures, gender identities, and sexual orientations because its focus is how two individual patterns interact and what develops between them.
Use the Framework With Care
Portraits, Connection Styles™, Security Patterns, and Foundation results are meant to open conversation, increase compassion, and support a better choice. They are not meant for scorekeeping, diagnosis, or arguments. A partner’s results should never become ammunition, and they should never become a shield against responsibility.
When the Two of You Need More
The Clearer Us™ is written for couples who can engage honestly with safety and mutual freedom. When hard conversations regularly lead to fear, threats, control, emotional abuse, physical harm, or retaliation, professional support should come first.
The Personalized Companion: The Us Profile™
The book teaches you how to read the relationship. The Profile shows how that framework is operating between the two of you now.
Each partner completes The Us Profile™ independently. The combined report places both perspectives alongside the patterns you create together, and it provides targeted action steps based on the couple’s results.
