The 7 Foundations Framework™

The 7 Foundations Framework™ provides a common structure for understanding seven conditions that influence how people live, relate, and work together. It is central to Relationships Reimagined® books, Profiles, and practical relationship work.

The 7 Foundations Framework™ provides a common language for understanding seven conditions that influence how people relate, make decisions, handle pressure, build trust, manage resources, establish limits, and move forward.

The meaning of each Foundation remains consistent, while its expression changes with context. Communication, trust, boundaries, and the other Foundations operate differently in an individual life, between two partners, and across a team.

Seven Connected Conditions

The seven conditions influence one another. Communication can influence conflict. Trust can affect how directly people speak. Boundaries can affect workload, closeness, and resentment. Finances or resources can affect decision-making and power. Growth becomes harder when the surrounding relationship or environment does not support change.

Communication

How information, needs, and meaning are expressed and understood. How well needs, appreciation, and difficult concerns are expressed clearly and understood accurately, including tone, timing, digital communication, and the felt experience of actually being heard.

Conflict

How differences, concerns, and competing needs are addressed. What triggers disagreement, what each person does under pressure, how pauses are used, and how well repair actually completes the cycle instead of leaving residue.

Trust

The reliability that creates safety. The degree to which honesty, consistency, and follow-through are present in ways that build confidence over time, and where uncertainty tends to gather.

Intimacy

How people become known and understood within appropriate boundaries. In close relationships, Intimacy includes emotional, physical, intellectual, and everyday closeness. In team settings, the same Foundation is expressed through Understanding: how well people know one another's working needs, communication patterns, responses to pressure, and forms of support.

Finances

How resources reflect priorities. For individuals and couples, this includes money, transparency, decision-making, security, and shared purpose. For teams and organizations, it includes how money, time, staffing, attention, recognition, opportunity, and support are distributed and prioritized.

Boundaries

How expectations, responsibilities, access, and limits are defined and respected. Boundaries include time, energy, privacy, technology, responsibilities, outside relationships, and the limits that help people protect what matters without creating unnecessary distance.

Growth

How people learn, adapt, develop, and move forward. Growth considers development, readiness for change, future direction, and how well the surrounding relationship or environment supports meaningful progress. Depending on the context, that may involve personal direction, shared goals, or the development of a team.

The Same Framework, Different Context

Individual

How the seven conditions operate across a person's relationships, decisions, responsibilities, and daily life.

Couple

How both partners experience the same relationship, where their experiences align or differ, and how the Foundations interact between them.

Team

How the Foundations operate across shared work, including communication, conflict, trust, understanding, resources and priorities, boundaries, and growth.
