Work on the relationship together.

Richard and Nancy Wallace provide co-led couples sessions in Dallas-Fort Worth and virtually nationwide. When recurring issues, difficult conversations, or changes in the relationship need dedicated attention, couples sessions provide structured time to work through them together.

Couples come to us at many different points in their relationship. Sometimes communication has become harder than it used to be. The same disagreement keeps resurfacing. Expectations have changed. Trust has been strained. Life has become busy enough that the relationship itself is receiving less attention.

Other couples have a strong relationship and want to be more intentional about maintaining it.

Couples sessions create room to look at the relationship itself instead of only reacting to the latest issue.

A Relationship Can Feel Different When You Understand What Is Happening Beneath the Surface

Recurring conflict, communication breakdowns, disconnection, trust concerns, and changing expectations can affect even strong relationships. Richard and Nancy work with couples together, bringing two perspectives to each session and helping partners examine what is happening and determine practical next steps.

Two Perspectives in Every Couples Session

Every couples session is co-led by Richard and Nancy. Richard and Nancy may notice different parts of the same conversation, giving the couple two informed perspectives as the discussion unfolds. The goal is to surface the real patterns at play and help the conversation move somewhere useful.

Training That Informs Our Couples Work

Our couples work is informed by training in the Gottman Method, including Gottman Method Couples Therapy Levels 1 and 2. Richard has also completed additional Gottman training focused on affairs, trauma, and relational recovery. We draw from that training, the Relationships Reimagined® 7 Foundations Framework™, relationship assessments, and our broader relationship-coaching training to understand what may be happening between partners and determine where the work should focus. Our session-based approach draws from established couples-coaching methods while giving couples a structured way to work on the relationship together.

What Couples Often Want to Work On

We work with married couples, committed partners, and couples preparing for or considering their future together, addressing a recurring concern or intentionally strengthening an already healthy relationship.

Communication

Conversations that break down, become misunderstood, or never seem to reach the real issue.

Conflict

Recurring disagreements and patterns that leave one or both partners frustrated, defensive, or disconnected.

Trust

Questions about reliability, follow-through, honesty, or rebuilding confidence in the relationship.

Intimacy

Changes in emotional or physical closeness and the ways partners experience connection.

Finances

Differences around spending, saving, priorities, responsibilities, or the meaning attached to money.

Boundaries

Expectations involving family, work, friendships, technology, responsibilities, and personal space.

Growth

How the relationship adapts as each person changes and as life moves into a different season.

Our Approach: Start With the Patterns Between You

Couples often arrive focused on a particular problem. We pay attention to that issue, but we also look for the patterns underneath it. We look at how the two of you communicate when something matters, what happens when you disagree, and where the conversation tends to get stuck. We also pay attention to what helps each partner feel heard and understood. The work is practical. Sessions are designed to help you see those patterns clearly and approach important conversations differently.

Our Framework: The 7 Foundations Framework™

The 7 Foundations Framework™ gives couples a common structure for looking at the parts of a relationship that influence everyday life: Communication, Conflict, Trust, Intimacy, Finances, Boundaries, and Growth. The Foundations help organize the conversation without reducing the relationship to a score.

How Couples Sessions Begin: Foundation, Focus Phase, Then Ongoing Work

Foundation, Focus, and ongoing Couples Sessions are available in person in Dallas-Fort Worth or virtually.

Foundation: Couples Foundation Session — 120 Minutes, $350

This is where we begin. Richard and Nancy meet with you together to understand what is bringing you to couples sessions, what has been happening in the relationship, what each partner is experiencing, and what you hope will be different. We ask questions, identify areas that may need closer examination, and determine which assessments may provide additional insight before the next session.

Focus Phase: Couples Focus Sessions — 100 Minutes, $300 Each

The first Focus Session generally begins with time for each partner to speak individually with one of us, typically Richard with one partner and Nancy with the other, before reconvening together. The number of Focus Sessions varies by couple. What we learn during the Foundation Session, individual conversations, assessments, and subsequent work helps determine when it makes sense to transition into regular Couples Sessions.

Ongoing: Couples Sessions — 50 Minutes, $225

Once the Foundation and Focus process has established the right direction, regular Couples Sessions concentrate on the priorities and patterns identified through that work. Sessions provide dedicated time to work through those areas, practice different approaches, and continue building on what the two of you are learning about the relationship.

What a Session Can Look Like

Begin With What Matters Now

You do not need to arrive with the perfect explanation of the problem. We begin with what has been happening and what each partner hopes will be different.

Look at the Interaction

Richard and Nancy listen to both partners and pay attention to how the issue is being experienced from each side.

Work Through the Conversation

A session may include guided conversation, reflection, or a practical exercise based on what is happening in the relationship at that point.

Leave With Something to Use

The work continues outside the session. Couples may leave with a conversation to continue, something to practice, or a specific issue to pay attention to before returning.

The Us Profile™

Some couples choose to include The Us Profile™ as part of their work with Richard and Nancy. Each partner completes the Profile independently. The resulting report looks at each person individually and then examines how their patterns interact within the relationship. The Us Profile™ can also be purchased independently.

If Your Partner Isn't Ready: You Can Still Begin on Your Own

If your partner is not ready to participate, you do not have to wait to begin working on your own experience of the relationship. Individual Sessions give you space to examine communication, boundaries, recurring patterns, decisions, and the parts of the relationship you can influence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Richard and Nancy always work with couples together?

Yes. Couples sessions are co-led by Richard and Nancy so both partners have two informed perspectives in the room.

Do we have to be married?

No. Couples sessions may be appropriate for married couples, committed partners, engaged couples, or couples considering the future of their relationship.

What if my partner and I see the problem completely differently?

That is common. Couples do not need to agree on the problem before beginning. Part of the work is understanding how each partner is experiencing the relationship.

Will you tell us who is right?

The purpose of couples sessions is to help both partners examine what is happening between them and what each person may need to understand or approach differently, rather than choosing a side.

Can we use The Us Profile™ during couples sessions?

Yes. Some couples purchase The Us Profile™ independently, while others use it as part of their work with Richard and Nancy.

Are sessions available virtually?

Yes. Couples sessions are available in person in DFW and/or virtually.

What if my partner doesn't want to participate?

You can still begin through Individual Sessions. The work can focus specifically on your experience of the relationship, including communication, recurring patterns, boundaries, decisions, and how you want to approach the relationship moving forward.
